This website is hosted by 34SP, a UK based hosting company specialising in the budget market.  For a low-cost hosting provider, they offer many features including MySQL, PHP, Python and Ruby.  Friends and relatives have been using 34SP since 2004, and found them to be highly reliable and generally uptime is vey good.  34SP offers automatic install scripts for many different blogs, content management systems and wikis, including Wordpress, which made things very simple to set up. (not that Wordpress is complicated to install)

The site itself is using the Wordpress personal-publishing (née Blogging) system.  This seemed to have the best combination of ease of use and reconfigurability without adding too much complexity (I don’t need a web-shop or forums) or being too limited.  The other options being considered were to use either the Joomla or Drupal content management systems.  Both of these seemed to be overkill for what is intended to be a fairly simple website.

Currently “From the Wyverns Nest” is using the Blue Box theme by Bob with minor adjustments to colours and images.  This is a simple fixed-with theme which fits in with the layout I wanted.  Eventually it may move to a customised theme.
